Interceptive Orthodontics

Interceptive Orthodontics is a method of identifying and treating issues such as crowding, over or under bites, narrow arches or misalignment of your child’s teeth before they seriously develop. This prevents larger issues from developing at an older age, and reduces or eliminates the need for teeth to be extracted in order to correct the potential issue.

There are many different methods of performing Interceptive Orthodontics based on your child’s unique situation, but there is always a constant – treatment is done in “tiers.” Children should be assessed sometime after they hit 7 years old, in order to best take advantage of the growth of their teeth. Over time, and as their permanent teeth continue to come in, different tiers of treatment will be undergone in order to prevent or eliminate the potential issue.

Overall, Interceptive Orthodontics is more than just helping your child develop a smile they can be proud of. Identifying and addressing issues can also help your child develop and maintain a smile that functions properly and effectively, and stays healthy!
